Expected healing times of muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and nerves.

Everyone's healing time is different and depends on factors such as age, fitness level, and overall health. But there is consensus on the approximate healing time of different tissues such as muscle, tendon, ligaments, bone, fascia and nerve.

Muscles:

Muscles typically take about 2-4 weeks to fully heal from an overuse injury. During this time, it's important to avoid activities that aggravate the injury and use gentle stretching exercises as directed by your physiotherapist.

Tendons and Ligaments:

Recovery time for tendons and ligaments can vary depending on the location and severity of the injury. In general, minor strains or sprains may heal in a few weeks with proper rest and treatment, while more severe injuries could take several months to heal. Ligaments in general have a longer recovery time than tendons.

Bones:

Bone healing time can vary depending on the severity of the injury, but on average, it takes about 6-8 weeks for a fractured bone to heal. During this time, immobilization is usually required to allow the bone to set properly.

Cartilage:

Cartilage take several months to heal. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to try to repair or remove the damaged cartilage, which can extend the recovery time.

Nerves:

Nerve injuries can be tricky because they don't heal as quickly as other tissues. The healing time for a nerve injury depends on the severity of the damage, but it can take several months or even years to fully heal. It is widely accepted that nerves recover with approximately 3-4mm/day.
